Rejoice in the Lord! Again, I say Rejoice! Be happy and sing songs of adoration and praise to our Lord. We are saddened to announce that the Lord called our husband, dad, and Opa, Walt Roessler, to join his heavenly saints on Friday, August 11, 2023.
Born March 20, 1937, in Angola, NY to Walter and Johanna Roessler, Walt later moved with his family to Astoria, NY where he attended grade school and high school in Englewood, NJ. He later attended Fairleigh Dickinson University and obtained his BSIE.
Right out of college with his first job for Delco Radio, he moved to Kokomo, IN where he joined the Kokomo Community Chorus and met the love of his life, Judy Barrett. They married in April of 1963 and were blessed with three children: Kevin Allen, Susan Alayne (Jonathan Drake), and David Walter. Their children blessed Walt and Judy with four grandchildren: Gillian, Gwendolyn, Kevyn, and Ava.
While raising a family, Walt obtained his MBA from the University of Detroit. He held a membership to AIIE (American Institute of Industrial Engineers) and is a lifetime Certified Purchasing Manager (NAPM).
Walt was always on some kind of committee in any church where he and Judy were members. They both sang in the choirs, and he served as an elder and held offices such as Vice President and President at various times.
After his retirement from General Motors after 40 years, he and Judy moved to Vonore, TN. They are charter members of their new church, Christ Our Savior in Loudon, TN.
Walt continued to serve on various committees, building fund raisers, search committees, and outreach ministries. He was instrumental in starting the endowment fund at COS. His greatest joy was trying to figure out new ways to spread the gospel in Eastern TN. He served on other boards in their new community in Tellico Village, and he was even Grand Marshall one year of their annual 4th of July Parade.
Walt enjoyed singing with Judy and they both joined Tellico Village Singers & Voices.
Walt’s priority has always been his faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He lived his life with the motto What Would Jesus Do (WWJD) before it was all the rage. His second priority was the love of his life, his wife of more than 60 years, Judy. They built a beautiful life together. Traveling the world and always setting a good example of a Christ-centered life and marriage. Walt’s next priority was his children and grandchildren. You could find him calling and texting them all every week. He just loved keeping in touch with them. They were his pride and joy.
There are two Celebration of Life services scheduled. The first will be at Christ Our Savior in Loudon, TN on Saturday, August 19, 2023. Visitation will be at 1:30pm and the service will start at 2pm with fellowship following the service. The second will be at St. Paul Lutheran in Royal Oak, MI, on Sunday, August 27, 2023. Visitation will be at 1:30pm and the service will start at 2pm. A private burial and ceremony are planned for Walt so that he can be laid to rest with his son Kevin.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in Walt’s name be made to the endowment fund at Christ Our Savior in Loudon, TN.
We the family know that we have not lost our husband, dad, and Opa; we know right where he is.
Well done good and faithful servant.
