Richard Neal Mowery, age 67 of Maryville, TN, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 26, 2023. He is preceded in death by his father, Glen Mowery. Neal is survived by his loving wife of 6 years, Judy Mowery of Maryville, TN; his mother, Joan Mowery; two sons, Scott Mowery and wife Kira of Butler, MO, and Andy Mowery of Orlando, FL; five grandchildren Mason, Easton, Wyatt, and Kendall Mowery of Butler, MO, and Sophia Gambill of Knoxville, TN; brothers John Mowery and wife Kim, and Mark Mowery and wife Sarah; two stepsons Christopher (Stephanie) Gambill and Joseph (Emma) Gambill; a stepdaughter Tiffany Gambill, nieces, a nephew, cousins, and great nieces and nephews.
Neal was born on September 9, 1955. He shared his birthday with his father, Glen. Neal grew up around many cousins and his brothers playing sports, going fishing, and going hunting. He graduated from Farragut High School and went on to attend the University of Tennessee where he received his BA in Math. Several years later, Neal completed his MBA from Lincoln Memorial University. Neal later worked at Y-12 as a statistician and a project manager for 33 years. Following Y-12, he was a subcontractor who owned the rights to perform work at Y-12, working on a project for CNS and Bechtel. This progect lasted several years with UPF at Hazelwood, Tetra Tech and Ingenium.
Neal loved the outdoors and could frequently be found on the lake fishing or in the woods waiting for the next deer to make its presence known. He was a supporter of University of Tennessee athletics and was very active in the ministries of his church, Blount Community Church. Neal was known by many for his quick sense of humor where he could instantly have a good, dry joke for so many situations that would make people laugh. A bit later in life he got serious about learning how to play the guitar and learned several instruments. Neal loved to play them for people and especially loved listening to his grandchildren play those instruments.
Neal was a deep thinker and loved to engage in philosophical conversations to learn more and engage more in things he didn’t understand or something he felt he had an interesting insight into. One of those things was talking to people about Heaven and telling them how he wanted them in Heaven with him one day.
Neal left a legacy and a lasting memory with everyone that he crossed paths with in this life. There is nothing more that he would love than to cross paths with you again one day in the courts of His God and King.
The family would like to give a special Thank You to UT Hospice and PCM Home Health for their love and care.
