Mark Alan Cunningham, 63, of Maryville, passed away November 30, 2020. He is preceded in death by his parents Joe and Joann Cunningham, sister Jane Sanders and his brother Michael Cunningham. Mark is survived by his wife Connie, daughter Heather Paige, grandson Riley, brother-in-law Gerry Sanders and step-mother Naomi Cunningham. Mark began his career at Alcoa Tennessee Operations in April 1979. He started in the Reliners where he worked on rebuilding the potlines in the smelter. He later transferred to the Pot rooms, and was a crane operator and worked to produce the molten aluminum. Mark then moved to South Ingot and worked as a castor where he helped to produce aluminum ingots. When he transferred to South CB&G, he worked on the construction and rebuilding of the furnaces that cast the ingots. Mark was proud that he was able to work his whole career at the South Plant, and he would tell you so. While working in all these areas, Mark was a strong Union leader, representing the members of the USW. Any time someone had a problem or a question, Mark was there to help or give guidance. He was the Department Chair in South Ingot for many years and proudly served as South Plant Chair for six years. He also participated in negotiations of the union contract in 2010. Mark’s wisdom, honesty and experience will be greatly missed.
