It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Margaret Hayes Jordan, who peacefully departed this world on August 27th, 2023, at the age of 73. Margaret leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories that will forever be in the hearts of those who knew her.
Born on July 12th, 1950, in Canton, MS, Margaret brought light and joy to the lives of her family, friends, and community. She attended Brooklyn High School and the University of Southern Mississippi. Beginning her career in private education, Margaret eventually earned her Certified Public Accountant certification and served for nearly two decades in finance for the State of Mississippi. After retirement, Margaret moved to Townsend, TN where she spent the remainder of her life enjoying the beauty of the Smoky Mountains—and the grandchildren who often came to summers at “Camp Mimi.” She could often be found in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park and surrounding areas enjoying the Spring flowers, Fall foliage, and the waterfalls.
Margaret took great joy in family and friends. Her home was a constant open door for family, friends and-- on several occasions-- perfect strangers. No one who ever met Margaret stayed a stranger for long. Her hospitality was legend, as was her love for life. Anyone who knew Margaret often heard the refrain, “Memories are forever.” Margaret lived with this in mind; she will live on through the countless memories she made with those who loved her.
Margaret is survived by her spouse, Dan Jordan; daughter and son-in-law, Missy and Brec Esnard; and son and daughter-in-law, Sterling and Melanie Thomas. She will always be Mimi to her five grandchildren: Maggie and Emily Esnard; and Ella, Bobby and Henry Thomas. Margaret is also survived by her four stepchildren, Robert Jordan, Mary Kristen Rieckman, Brian Jordan, and Sarah Kirkpatrick. Margaret will be missed by countless others whose lives were enriched by her presence. Margaret is preceded in death by her first husband, Bobby Wayne Thomas.
There will be no public memorial service. A private service for immediate family members will be held at a date to be determined.
