Chief Warrant Officer Four (Retired) John Paul King, Jr. of Maryville passed away on October 14 at the age of 61. He served 36 years in the U.S. Army and Tennessee Army National Guard. He was a full-time instructor pilot at Army Aviation Support Facility #2 at McGhee-Tyson Air Base, before retiring in 2021. CW4 (R) King served on numerous deployments including Iraq and Romania amassing over 10,000 flight hours, and was qualified in UH-1 Huey, AH-1 Cobra, OH-58Δ Kiowa, and UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters. He was a proud member of the Army Aviation Association of America (Quad A), the National Guard Association of Tennessee, VFW Post 5154, and the Volunteer Chapter of the U.S. Army Warrant Officers Association where he served a term as President. CW4 (R) King was a graduate of numerous military courses, and earned a Bachelor's Degree from Liberty University in 2011. His awards and decorations include: The Meritorious Service Medal, The Army Achievement Medal, The Iraq Campaign Medal with two stars, The Army Good Conduct Medal, The Master Army Aviator Badge, and The Army Aviation Association Order of St. Michael. He is preceded in death by his father, Johnny Paul King, Sr., grandparents Floyd and Jewell Banks, Frank and Norma King, and stepfather Jack Scott. He is survived by his wife Susan, mother Betty Ruth Scott, daughter Alexi Anderson (Russell), stepdaughter Kameron Kalolo (Nikolas), grandson Shepherd, soon-to-be grandson Stedman John Paul, brother Brian King, sister Melinda Burns (Tony), and his military family. The family would like to express sincere appreciation to BMH ER and ICU staff and gratitude to Connie. Services will be with full military honors at Grandview Cemetery on October 20th at 4pm followed by receiving of friends at Grandview Cemetery from 4pm-6pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to The Wounded Warrior Project or the Blount County Animal Shelter.
