Mrs. Henny Schonagen, of Greenback TN, died on December 8, 2017 at the age of 80. Henny was born on July 14, 1937 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. She grew up with a love of nature, most importantly was her passion for birds and identifying all that would show up at her feeders over the years. She also became an avid crafter and many friends and family members stay warm during the winter months from the beautiful throws and blankets she crocheted for us all over the years. In 1959, Henny married John F (Hans) Schonagen, and the couple immigrated to the United States to begin their 57 years of marriage together. Henny balanced her time between raising her two children, gardening, sailing and caring for her many pets. As time allowed Henny loved traveling the world either flying with Hans or sailing the oceans. She also loved preparing traditional Dutch meals for her friends and family anytime of the year but especially during the holidays. She especially loved spending time with and helping raise her granddaughter and keeping their Dutch traditions and heritage alive. Henny will be loved and missed by surviving Husband, Hans; son, Randy and daughter Anita and Husband John Ellis, granddaughter Nolan Anna; brother, Tom Van Dalen and wife Elaine. She is predeceased by her parents, Theo and Anne Van Dalen. In respect of Henny’s wishes, no services will be held. The family is celebrating Hennys life privately.
