Cynthia Renee Nordeen Atchley

1946 — 2024

Knoxville, TN

Cynthia Renee Nordeen Atchley passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 6, 2024 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Cynthia was born in Tacoma, Washington in 1946 and had the privilege of living throughout the United States finishing high school in Blytheville, Arkansas. As a young woman, Cynthia settled in Knoxville, TN where she met and married the love of her life, Glenn “Eddie” Atchley and raised her family.

Cynthia’s passions in life included her family, her faith, musicals, rodeos, elaborate dinner parties and decorating for the holidays! She knew no stranger, loved to laugh and lifted her voice in song whenever possible which was whenever she wanted. Her love of family and friends was evident in the constant string of visitors over the last few weeks. Cynthia lived her faith in Jesus Christ with her church families—Cokesbury United Methodist Church for over 40 years and most recently as a member of First Methodist Church of Alcoa where she was an active member of the choir before her sudden illness.

Throughout her life, she poured into her family. Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Aaron (Brooke) Atchley and Kendra Atchley, her granddaughters Anna and Abby Atchley who were the light of her life, and her great-grandson, Hudson who was the twinkle in her eye. She will also be remembered by her best friend and sister-in-law, Susan Johnson and her beloved nephews, Jason Johnson, Casey (Rebecca) Johnson and Dusty (Andrea) Johnson as well her great nephews and nieces—Cody, Bailee, Andee, Toby, Micah, Emma, Daniel, Jax, Avery and Blaire.

Cynthia was preceded in death by her loving parents, Frances and Helen Nordeen and her loving husband, Glenn "Eddie" Atchley.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Friday, October 11 to celebrate and remember the life of Cynthia Atchley at Alcoa First Methodist at 617 Gilbert St., Alcoa, TN 37701. Visitation will take place at 5:00 and the service will begin at 6:00 led by the Rev. Brad Stapleton with special music provided by Cynthia’s friends.
