Barbara Barton, 73, passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at home with her husband and children by her side. She was the daughter of Garland and Nell St. Clair.
Barbara is survived by her husband Charlie; son and his wife, Andy and Brandy Barton; daughter and her husband Carrie and Nolin Huddleston; grandchildren Drew Barton, and June and Shepard Huddleston; and brother and sister-in-law, Ed and Darlene St. Clair. She dearly loved her grandchildren and relished every opportunity she had to spend with them.
Barbara was a graduate of Maryville High School. She received her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Education at the University of Tennessee Knoxville where she was recognized as graduate student of the year in the College of Education. Over the years, Barbara taught at the preschool and elementary levels, as well as for the Blount County Adult Basic Education program. She later worked as a government grant evaluator through the UT Social Work Office of Research and Public Service (SWORPS).
Barbara was a life-long member of Maryville First United Methodist Church. She was a dedicated volunteer for Meals on Wheels for many years. As her own mobility declined, Barbara touched the lives of many people through cards and letters, offering comfort, hope, and encouragement. Many people have attested that she helped them through some of their darkest times with her loving correspondence.
The family wants to thank everyone who has supported them through Barbara’s long journey with Amyloidosis. We extend a special thanks and recognition to Wendy Towle who was a constant, daily caregiver and friend for two years. We also want to acknowledge Blount Memorial Hospice and specifically, Jamie Prowell, RN who was her Hospice nurse for 2½ years, serving as a loving and professional caregiver and advocate.
Plans for a life celebration are still being finalized. Donations are requested to be made either to the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) for disaster relief or to A Place to Stay - Blount County for homeless support. If you wish to send flowers, please send them to a shut-in that needs their day brightened.
