A. Margaret Quillen

September 20, 1939 — January 28, 2025

Knoxville, TN

Anna Margaret Bucy Quillen (September 20, 1939 – January 28, 2025) was born in Lorado, WV, to Charles Walter Bucy and Edith Charlotte Bucy, one of five children running wild in the rolling hills and along Buffalo Creek, cultivating early on her love of walking and hiking. After graduating from Man High School, WV (Class of 1957), Margaret worked as a switchboard operator for Lorado Coal Company and in accounting for J.T. Fish Company in Omar. Margaret’s appreciation of numbers led to attaining a degree in accounting from Morris Harvey College in WV (now known as University of Charleston). She worked for a time with the IRS in Marietta, GA, and then settled in the Eastern Tennessee region permanently.

While regularly commuting by bus, the driver, Fred Quillen, and Margaret sparked an interest and were married for a time before splitting to go their own ways. A hard worker and a helper, Margaret advanced to accounting and HR manager at Vulcan Materials in Maryville and later Orrco Manufacturing in Alcoa. She continued her studies as well, attaining a Bachelor of Science from Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens, TN. In her free time, she would hike the surrounding Smoky Mountains, travel, and assist her dear friend, Geri Haworth, with her accounting practice. A longtime member of Sevier Heights Baptist Church, Margaret especially loved participating in the annual Living Christmas Tree choir. She also volunteered with the disaster relief team when and where needed and took clothing to students in need in Kentucky for many years. And Margaret was a longtime volunteer with University of Tennessee Medical Center, visiting and supporting patients and staff there.

Margaret was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Jimmie Gene Bucy; her sister, Charlene Weese; and her beloved friend, Geri. She is survived by her brother, Charles David Bucy; her sister, Sara Jane Cook; nieces and nephews living across the US in FL, WV, KS, OH, CO, and CA, Laura Lee Guy, Selena Weese, Edie Philipsek, Jaime Woods, Leslie Weese, Abbigale Cook, Dale Bucy, Alan Bucy, Vince Bucy, and Aaron Bucy; and other friends and family. Special thanks to Lorene and Kathy Boatman, good church friends; Sarah Malia, conservator; the care staff at Courtyards Assisted Living, including Cynthia, Dolly, Lottie, Jordynn, Krishana, and Amy, who took such excellent care of Margaret in her final years; and RN Dee and Chaplain Phil Groos from UT Hospice who went above and beyond providing support and assistance. Margaret was a sweet, feisty lady who forged her own path, connected with friends and family while protecting her cherished independence.
